1. AMI BIOS of PAM-0073I does not support the large HDD above 8.4GB.

Ans: We had stopped to update AMI BIOS of PAM-0073I long time ago, because we had stopped cooperating with AMI. Now, we have the Award BIOS for PAM-0073I, this BIOS exactly supports the large HDD above 8.4GB. You may convert the current AMI BIOS into the Award BIOS.

2. Windows® 2000 cannot boot when changed "On-Chip Video Windows Size" on 810 motherboards.

Ans: When changed "On-Chip Video Windows Size" on 810 motherboards, Windows® 2000 will report the error message and hang up.

The dumped message in Windows® 2000 :
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Address FA5C9E6D base at FA5BC0000, DataStamp 37f3b9fe-i81xdnt5.dll

This problem was happened on the VGA driver. For example, when you changed the size from 64MB to 32MB, Windows® 2000 did know this change and reserve the 32MB-64MB virtual memory area for the other drivers using. The VGA driver cannot load in this area any more. But the VGA driver didn't know this change, it still requested Windows® 2000 loaded "i81xdnt5.dll" to 32MB-64MB area. So, Windows® 2000 displayed the Page Fault error.
According to Intel®'s 810 chipsets Data sheet, 64MB Windows size is the optimal setting, This setting should not be changed. In particular, Windows® 2000 had been finished the installation.

3. What's the BIOS Setup item "PM Control by APM" in Power Management Setup?

Ans: The BIOS setup item "PM Control by APM" is a flag for power management and has the following behavior:

1. If this flag set to "Yes":
When a timeout event is coming or the power button is pressed, BIOS send a message to APM-aware OS instead of performing the actual response. For example, to shutdown/suspend/standby/doze/..... the system. So the APM-aware OS makes the final decision as to act or not.

2. if this flag set to "No":
BIOS won't signal the ongoing event to OS and performs the respective action immediately by itself.

By this setup item, you have your alternative of direct BIOS power management functions even if your OS is APM-aware.

4. The CPU FAN will be turned off when Windows® 2000 is running. Why?

Ans: Regarding the CPU fan stopped spinning in Windows® 2000, there are two issues in this case.

1. According to ACPI specification, Windows® 2000 will control the CPU temperature. When the CPU temperature rise to the warning temperature, Windows® 2000 just turns on the CPU fan to reduce the temperature. Normally, Windows® 2000 won't turn on the CPU fan except the temperature rise to the warning temperature.

2. Although Windows® 2000 is in APM mode, the system BIOS must contain the codes of thermal chip, such as the codes of LM78 and Winbond 83781D.

So, it's normal situation that you saw the CPU fan stopped spinning when you installed or run Windows® 2000.
